Chapter one explores the use of animated (GIF) images as a tool to convey our narrative. (GIFs) in a nutshell, is a compressed version of an original image based on a smaller palette of colours. Below is an example of an animated GIF image we have used.

We have discussed whether a static picture like the painting of the Mona Lisa is able to convey a narrative. Some have said yes while others have disagreed. Some argue that the use of a series pictures rather than just a sole picture conveys a narrative. An animated GIF image is alike to a series of pictures. It flashes 2 or more pictures very quickly within a few seconds. GIFs was able to create a micro event which contributed to the entire narrative. For example, it shows us part of the setting, the size of her house and the amount of clothes the protagonist had in her closet . While, it has been effective in telling part of the story, we have realized that the use of GIFs was difficult to convey the entire chapter.
Take for example, as we have mentioned in the story we created, “Her closet was vast and filled with all the latest trends and she never had to repeat an outfit again.” Would an animated GIF image be able to create an accurate description of the above phrase? A GIF image is perhaps a visual enhancement and acts as a supplementary to the story. It lacks the exact adjectives we want to use in order to narrate the story. As such, the majority of chapter 1 was text whereas the use of GIF images were add-ons to enhance the story. Text was able to describe vividly the thoughts and emotions of the characters and the settings. GIF images on the otherhand, aids us visually.
